CPSC, Kawasaki Motors USA Recalls Engines Sold on Ferris and SCAG Riding Lawn Mowers Due to Burn and Fire Hazards

Name of product: Kawasaki FT730V-EFI Lawn Mower Engines

Units: About 33,100

Manufacturer: Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp. USA, of Maryville, Mo.

Hazard: The high-pressure fuel line can get damaged by contact with the fuel pump cover, causing a fuel leak that poses burn and fire hazards.

Incidents/Injuries:Kawasaki has received four reports of incidents involving the high-pressure fuel lines leaking including one fire. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves Kawasaki engines used in riding lawn mowers sold under the Ferris brand name with mower models IS 700Z ZTR, ISX 800Z ZTR and ISX 2200Z ZTR and under the SCAG brand name with mower models Tiger Cat II and V- Ride II. The recalled engines are model year 2018 through 2022 Kawasaki FT730V-EFI series. “Kawasaki FT730V EFI” is printed on the engine air filter cover. The engine model and serial number are located on the engine fan housing. The following model and serial number ranges are included in this recall:

Sold at: Kawasaki, Ferris, and SCAG dealers nationwide from November 2017 through September 2022 for between $8,000 and 13,000 for mowers with Kawasaki FT730V-EFI engines.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using mowers with the recalled engines and contact Kawasaki or a Kawasaki dealer to schedule a free repair. Kawasaki is contacting all known purchasers directly.

CPSC, Scag Power Equipment Recalls Liberty Z Lawn Mowers Due to Fire Hazard

Name of product: Scag Liberty Z zero-turn lawn mowers
Units: About 4,000
Manufacturer: Scag Power Equipment, of Mayville, WI
Hazard: The gas tank can leak, posing a fire hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: Scag Power Equipment has received five reports of gas tank leaks on the mowers. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves two Scag Liberty Z zero-turn lawn mowers; model SZL48-22KT with serial numbers K7100001 through K7102353 and model SZL52-24KT with serial numbers K7200001 through K7202020. The model and serial numbers are printed on a vertical plate under the mower’s seat. “Scag” in red letters, “Liberty Z” in white letters and a blue “Z” is printed on a plate below the front of the seat. The mowers have an orange base with two orange and black steering handles. The mowers also have two large black with orange rim wheels in the back of the mower and two smaller black with orange rim wheels in the front of the mower.

Sold at: Scag Power Equipment authorized dealers nationwide from October 2014 through May 2015 for about $4,500.
