JOLIET, Ill. (May 14, 2025) – Dave Richards and the BlueBird Turf / Versatran Funny Car team are primed to take on the Gerber Collision and Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway, just outside Chicago. The weekend offers Richards and the SCAG Racing team an opportunity to perform in front of a passionate crowd, including employees, dealers, and distributors from Metalcraft of Mayville and SCAG Power Equipment.
“I’m excited to get to Chicago and Route 66 Raceway,” Richards said. “It’s going to be quite the scene with all the Cats Eye Gold. We plan on putting on a show for them. Like our car says, ‘Our employees make the difference!’”
Richards hopes to make a strong showing at Route 66 Raceway. The event holds special significance for the SCAG Racing team, with the iconic “Cats Eye Gold” filling the stands, representing the dedicated workforce that powers the SCAG family. Richards and his team are motivated to deliver a performance that honors their support and showcases the strength of the BlueBird Turf / Versatran Funny Car.
Coming off recent momentum that includes a final quad appearance at the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals. Richards and the BlueBird team are currently No. 12 in the standings and focused on fine-tuning the car’s performance to tackle the tough Funny Car field. The team has been working diligently during the two week break in the schedule.
“We tested earlier this week,” Richards said. “We learned a lot, a lot about what isn’t going to work, and that’s valuable. So, we’ll be looking forward to getting back to competition getting to see all the employees coming out and our new teammate, Randy Couture, unveiling his new ride. It’s going to be a great weekend on and off the racetrack.”
With the addition of new teammate Randy Couture and the unveiling of his Pro Mod car this weekend, the SCAG Racing camp is buzzing with excitement and ready to make a statement both on and off the track.
The BlueBird Turf / Versatran Funny Car team is set to hit the track with determination, aiming to turn on win lights and captivate the Chicago-area fans. With a full field of competitors and the electric atmosphere of Route 66 Raceway, Richards is prepared for an action-packed weekend.
